'It's nothing to joke about'

July 27, 2020

Megan Thee Stallion has taken to Instagram Live to candidly discuss the feelings she’s been grappling with since news broke that the Houston native had been shot in the foot, allegedly by Tory Lanez.

The “Girls in the Hood” rapper has faced excruciating social media commentary in the weeks following the heinous incident. The “meme-ification” of a Black woman’s pain has become a topic that many are no longer turning a blind eye to.

During her Instagram Live session Megan shares, “I thought I was ready to give good energy to other people and other people wasn’t ready to give good energy to me.”

Behind the tears and pain that Meg shares with her followers on Instagram, we see that it's ok to not always be so strong. The way the “Savage Remix” singer opens up demonstrates that it's dangerous to think that she always has a hard exterior and can simply move on from the pain. However, it's crucial to point out that it takes courage and strength to share emotions with anyone after a traumatic incident, let alone on a large social media platform.

In her stream, Megan continues, “Thank god for all the hotties and the supporters that I see have had my back through these times.”

The artist paints a picture for us in terms of the struggle she’s been facing and says, “Imagine being 25 and you don’t have both of your parents, my mama was my best friend, you know I’m still really not over that, so you got to try to fill your space with a bunch of people that you think is making you happy… like it’s a lot.”

Megan powerfully speaks out to say that her pain is not funny, “its nothing to joke about,” the rapper shares matter of factly.

We love Megan and we wish success on her road to healing.
