1Thing: Who will be next to ban Plastic Straws & Utensils?

The 1Thing that caught my eye this week was the news on the City of Seattle Banning Plastic Straws and Utensils.  This is now a city wide ordinance that went into effect July 1, 2018.  Does this surprise you?  This has been in the making since 2008 when Seattle started rolling out a citywide ban on single-use plastics.

Why the ban?  These items are making their way into our oceans and waterways and harming wildlife.  Not to mention our landfills where it takes many, many years for these items to decompose.  But now with multiple manufactures that make approved compostable utensils and straws why would we want to continue to use plastic straws and utensil ?  Maybe it’s because we have become a society of convenience and we are so busy that we think we can’t live without these items, not even stopping to think about the future of our children, grandchildren and the generations to come and all the wildlife and how it impacts their lives by the choices we are making today.   Next time you are at a restaurant or go through the drive thru say “NO” to the plastic!!
