Event Description:

For more than 60 years, HumanKind has brought the community together to support our low-income neighbors through Operation Holiday–providing coats, food, blankets, pet food, toys and more. Due to the pandemic, which has disproportionately hurt those who were already struggling to make ends meet, we anticipate the need being greater than ever this year. Most of what makes Operation Holiday special remains this year, though we are excited to roll out a new drive-thru format for distribution, in order to help keep everyone safe. Many coat drives have been cancelled due to the pandemic and the evolving nature of school, so we are making a big push for children’s coats this year. Our goal is to give a new coat to each child whose family applies for Operation Holiday this year, but we will need your help.

Ways to Support Operation Holiday

You can give. Monetary donations are most helpful, because HumanKind can purchase food, coats, blankets and more in bulk, much more cheaply than the average person. Donate now: www.operationholiday.org.

Partner organizations will host collection drives throughout Wichita but in an effort to keep everyone safe, we can only accept nonperishable foods, new children’s coats (no used or adult coats), new or hand-made children’s winter accessories, and new or hand-made blankets. To learn more or sign up to host a collection drive: operationholiday.org.

Join us for Operation Holiday Week of Giving, kicking off with our Operation Holiday Telethon on KSN on Monday, Nov. 30 and Wednesday, Dec. 2 at 5 and 6pm. We also invite you to join us for Stuff the Truck on Thursday, Dec. 3rd at Bradley Fair. You can bring your donations that evening to enjoy holiday music, a free hot chocolate, and, if you donate a new children’s coat, you’ll be entered to win a $100 Bradley Fair gift card. Our Operation Holiday Week of Giving will conclude with shopping for a cause at Dillons Day of Giving on Saturday, Dec. 5. Nonperishable food items and monetary gifts will be collected from 11am-2pm at several Dillons locations across town. You can find the locations and more at OperationHoliday.org. Dillons will host collection boxes through Monday, Dec. 14.

Volunteer. We are thrilled to begin hosting volunteers on our campus and at the Operation Holiday warehouse soon. You can learn more: OperationHoliday.org.

And lastly, you can help spread the word! Invite your networks to get involved by donating, hosting a drive, or volunteering—and help get the word out about Operation Holiday to those who may be struggling right now, directing them to apply online at www.HumanKindWichita.org/Holiday or by calling 316-777-6097 M-F 9:30am-4pm, now through November 20.
